Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is actively seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Regulated Waste Technician within our Environmental Health and Safety department. In this position, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in on-campus technician functions for the Environmental Affairs Program (EAP). Responsibilities encompass a spectrum of tasks, from performing hazardous waste pickups and container deliveries to providing support in the 90-day Chemical Waste Management Facility. The technician will also contribute to EAP management, ensuring the University’s essential functions align with federal, state, and local hazardous materials and waste management regulations.
Within the initial 6 months of hire, the successful candidate will undergo comprehensive training essential for the position. The University is committed to facilitating this training, covering all associated costs post-hire. The training regimen includes U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials training, Occupational Health, and Safety Administration (OSHA) hazardous waste operations and emergency response training, OSHA Hazard Communications, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
Additionally, the Regulated Waste Technician will collaborate with the Manager, Environmental Affairs, in ensuring compliance with various environmental programs. These include the Underground Storage Tank program, City of Reno Environmental Control program, and Washoe County Air Quality program, among others. As the technician grasps the core principles of these programs, they will actively participate in inspections alongside the Manager and serve as a valuable resource for student workers collecting data.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and one year (1) of related experience OR
- Master’s Degree and no experience
A valid Class “C: Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time or appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Related Experience:
Environmental science, hazardous material management, related training, or related experience.
