Placer County is in the process of developing Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies to implement transportation management-related goals and policies adopted in the Tahoe Basin Area Plan. Placer County staff, along with representatives from the consulting firm of Nelson Nygaard, are seeking input from community members about top opportunities for TDM implementation in the region.
Transportation Demand Management focuses on understanding how people make their transportation decisions and helping people use the infrastructure in place to maximize alternative travel choice such as transit, ridesharing, walking, and biking.
Placer’s current TDM efforts will include identification of next steps to improve transportation based on relevant and comparable practices in place at other resort areas; identifying opportunities to reduce vehicle trips and incentivize the use of alternative modes of transportation; potential modifications to Placer County’s trip reduction ordinance; and implementation strategies for transportation demand management-related policies and goals that have been included in the Tahoe Basin Area Plan.

Next Steps
The County hosted a workshop at the September 13, 2018 North Tahoe Regional Municipal Advisory Council meeting to gain feedback on transportation in the Basin.
The recommended strategies will be released for public review this winter. At that time, the County will host another workshop to share and refine the recommended TDM strategies with the community.
