Tahoe Public Art Unveils its Premiere Temporary Art Installation on the Shores of Lake Tahoe
Tahoe Public Art (TPA) is pleased to announce the unveiling of the first sculptural work of art placed along the new Tahoe Public Art Trail, featuring Kate Raudenbush’s FUTURE’S PAST, exhibited at Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort now through October 1, 2017.
The Tahoe Public Art Trail program places temporary, semi permanent, and permanent art at public, private, and resort locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin. The goal of the program is to have a transformational effect on the greater Lake Tahoe community through art created by local, national, and international artists that respond to and incorporate the local environment. “It is the goal of Tahoe Public Art to enhance the beauty of Lake Tahoe and bring awareness to the impact of the human element on the region,” said Steve Miller, Chairman of TPA.
FUTURE’S PAST is an imagined futuristic environment that draws inspiration from the archaeological sites of past cultures. It is a theoretic modern ruin that imagines the trajectory of our civilization’s voracious consumption and technological advances. Kate Raudenbush’s steel tree sculpture is a materialized statement posing the question, “How can the roots of our systems circuitry, and the roots of our natural world be integrated harmoniously in order for us to survive, live mindfully, and create a better future?”
This temporary environmental art installation is planted on the beach at Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort, situated with iconic views of Lake Tahoe as the backdrop for the 23-foot tall tree. “The Mourelatos family is very proud to host this compelling piece and the effort to bring it to the shores of Lake Tahoe. As a family, we are committed to supporting art in our community and we are excited about the impact it will have on the visitor and resident experience of North Lake Tahoe,” stated Alex Mourelatos, General Manager of Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort.
TPA is offering a cultural public program series at sunset on the third Thursday of each month at Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort, located at 6834 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe Vista, CA. (Please note: the parking lot is for hotel guests only, ample street parking is available).

Kate Raudenbush is a New York-based, Burning Man-bred artist. Her large-scale allegorical environments are created as an inclusive experiential space for elevated human connection. By combining visual symbolism cross-culturally within human history and mythology, geometry, and architecture, her laser cut forms in steel and light offer up futuristic gather spaces that tell a story of our collective culture and our relationship with our earth. Kate’s sculptures can be found in art exhibits from Seoul, South Korea, Art Basel, Miami, and in the permanent collection of the Nevada Museum of Art. They take root in public spaces in Reno, NV, San Francisco, CA, and are enjoyed equaling in private collections, art fairs, and festivals across the country.
