Music on the Beach, Lights in the Sky to Celebrate Summer Season at Lake Tahoe
Hosted by the North Tahoe Business Association, Labor Day weekend celebration in Kings Beach will include live music and a custom drone light show featuring 300 drones
KINGS BEACH, Calif. (April 14, 2023) – To celebrate the end of summer and the North Lake Tahoe community, the nonprofit North Tahoe Business Association (NTBA) will host “Music on the Beach, Lights in the Sky” on September 1. A Labor Day weekend celebration that will wrap up the popular Music on the Beach concert series and feature live music by GrooveSession, the evening will also include a spectacular custom light show with 300 drones flying over Lake Tahoe.
Sky Elements Drone Shows, an experienced drone show operator that produces half of the drone light shows around the country, has been selected as the vendor for the Labor Day show. Most recently, Sky Elements produced drone light shows at Northstar California Resort, and at the Grammys in Los Angeles.
“Although Labor Day weekend has always signaled the end of summer, until last year the season typically came to a close without much fanfare,” said Alyssa Reilly, NTBA executive director. “The tremendous response to last year’s final concert and inaugural drone show demonstrated what was possible as we continue to pursue opportunities to help our local businesses thrive all year round. We’re excited to host the final holiday of summer with a community celebration that actively supports our local business community and a drone show that is six times larger than last year.”
In 2022, the NTBA experimented with a drone light show over Labor Day weekend in lieu of the pyrotechnic fireworks show that formerly took place on July 3 in celebration of Independence Day. After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, the decision to shift to a drone light show was made to align with the region’s commitment to sustainability and stewardship, and address community concerns related to fire risk and environmental impacts. Moving the show to Labor Day weekend gives the NTBA the unique opportunity to create a more significant impact for area businesses as compared to the already busy Independence Day holiday.
Utilizing funds generated by the North Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District (NLT-TBID) and awarded by the North Tahoe Community Alliance, the free event will take place at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. Attendees will have the ability to purchase beer from Alibi Ale Works, wine from Truckee River Winery, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Local food vendors including MOGROG Rotisserie and Tacos Herrera will also have food available for purchase from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm. No outside alcohol or pets will be permitted.
Businesses or community members interested in event sponsorship opportunities are encouraged to contact the NTBA. For more details about the Music on the Beach, Lights in the Sky festivities, visit northtahoebusiness.org.
