Wilderness First Aid with NOLS and Tahoe Rim Trail Association
Wilderness First Aid with NOLS Wilderness Medicine
$265 (NON-TRTA MEMBERS) AND $235 (TRTA-MEMBERS)
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is hosting a two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course taught by NOLS Wilderness Medicine (NOLS WM). This course provides individuals with a foundation in important first aid concepts critical to responding effectively to emergencies in a remote backcountry environment.
The WFA course helps prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It introduces you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients challenges you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Taught by seasoned instructors in a two day format, this WFA course will finish in just one weekend. Learning takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments.
Prerequisites: No previous first aid training is required. You must be 16 years old to attend this course.
Certification: Successful course completion earns you a Wilderness Medicine- Wilderness First Aid certification. This certification is current for two years.
Re-certification: This course may also be used to re-certify WM Wilderness First Responder and WM Wilderness EMT (wilderness portion only) certifications. Participants using the WFA to re-certify their WFR need to have received their certification through WM and pass both a written and a practical examination. More info…
