KBCCIP Is Almost Complete

It’s almost hard to believe it, but this tractor is the last remaining piece of equipment used to build the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project.
With the clearing out of the construction staging area at the corner of Fox Street and Highway 28, this marks the end of an era for the revitalization of Kings Beach. On behalf of everyone at Placer County, a huge thanks to all who shared their input and helped make this project a big success, and for patience with the inconveniences that road construction projects bring.
Items completed this season include:
- A sixth public parking lot along Rainbow Avenue, which adds 32 more public parking spots to the area. This parking lot is now open for use. Please check it out if you haven’t already.
- Plantings were installed in planter beds along the east side of town.
- Decorative railings were added over the Griff Creek crossing to improve safety and aesthetics.
- Traffic posts (bollards) were replaced at key locations around the roundabouts to improve pedestrian safety.
- Perimeter fencing was added to the Christmas tree lot next to the Log Cabin restaurant.
- Additional trash and recycling bins were added along the highway to help with litter control.
- Additional landscaping was placed at the Kings Beach monument sign at the corner of Chipmunk Avenue.
- And we repaired multiple features damaged by snow removal operations.
Transit improvements:
We’re also moving forward with building another bus shelter similar to the one next to the Chevron station and the one at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. Construction is scheduled to begin shortly and anticipated to be completed before the snow flies. This bus stop location may be closed or impacted during this construction.
What’s next for Kings Beach:
The county, together with Caltrans and Tahoe Public Art, is working to complete the public art installations at the two roundabouts in town. At least one of the two art pieces selected by the community should be installed by next spring or summer.
Working with Caltrans, we’re also moving forward with preliminary planning for more improvements at the Highway 28/Highway 267 intersection. These improvements would consist of an additional roundabout, sidewalks, bike lanes, street furniture and landscaping. Stay tuned for community meetings about the proposal in the coming months.
In conjunction with the 28/267 improvements, we’re also planning boardwalk improvements on the lake side of the highway through town. The idea is to extend the mobility improvements from what has been built as part of the commercial core project. Look for community meetings on this concept in the coming months as well.
